35mm Negative Scanning Services

About 35mm Negative Scanning

35mm negatives contain a surprising amount of detail, but because the film area is small, they require higher scanning resolutions than standard printed photographs to produce the best digital results.

Photo Digital Services uses professional Epson V700 and V800 flatbed scanners, together with dedicated film-scanning equipment, to digitise 35mm colour and black-and-white negatives. Each strip is carefully handled and lightly cleaned with an air brush to remove loose dust before scanning.

The finished digital files are suitable for archiving, sharing, editing and printing, helping preserve valuable images that may otherwise remain hidden on ageing film.

What Scanning Resolution is Right for me?

2400DPI

Standard Resolution

2400 DPI is ideal for general archiving, sharing, standard-size prints and everyday digital use.

3600DPI

High Resolution

3600 DPI is ideal for larger prints, cropping and detailed editing while preserving more image detail from the original negative.

4800DPI

Ultra-High Resolution

4800 DPI is best for maximum detail, advanced restoration, heavy cropping and larger high-quality reproductions.

35mm Negative Scanning Requirements

1. 35mm negatives should preferably be supplied in strips. Single negative frames can also be scanned, with additional handling charges applying.

2. Negatives are gently air-brushed before scanning to remove loose surface dust. This does not include restoration or removal of embedded marks, scratches or mould.

3. iSRD infrared dust and scratch reduction is available for suitable colour negatives scanned at 3600 DPI or higher. Additional charges apply. iSRD is not suitable for traditional black-and-white negatives.

4. If your 35mm negatives are supplied as an uncut roll, they will need to be cut into strips of approximately 4–6 frames so they can be safely loaded into our scanning equipment.

5. Negatives should be in reasonable condition and free from sticky tape, staples, adhesive residue or other materials that may damage the film or scanning equipment.

6. A minimum scanning charge of $80.00 applies, plus a $19.95 job set-up fee.

Slides / Negatives Scanning Services

Slides and negatives often hold images that were never printed, making them some of the most valuable items in a family collection.

We carefully scan 35mm slides, photo negatives and selected medium or large-format film using dedicated flatbed scanning equipment designed for transparent media.

Each frame is handled with care and digitised to create clear, high-quality files that can be viewed, shared, printed or safely stored for the future.
