Dust & Scratch Reduction for Slides & Negatives

Slides and negatives often contain fine dust, surface marks and small scratches that become much more noticeable once the image is scanned. SilverFast iSRD helps reduce many of these imperfections automatically during the scanning process.

The technology uses the scanner’s infrared channel to detect dust and surface defects separately from the image itself. The scan is then processed to reduce those imperfections while preserving as much of the original image detail as possible.

SilverFast iSRD works particularly well with colour negatives and slides and can significantly improve the appearance of older film. For the best results, we generally recommend scanning at 3600 DPI or higher when iSRD is required.

Please note that infrared dust and scratch reduction is not suitable for all film types, including many traditional black-and-white negatives.
